Modern Arabesque

A refined Abu Dhabi villa where contemporary design meets subtle Arabesque artistry, balancing cultural character with modern comfort.

Modern Arabesque is a contemporary villa interior design project in Abu Dhabi that reinterprets traditional Arabesque character through a more modern and restrained design language.

The interior combines clean architectural proportions with soft forms, layered textures, reflective finishes and carefully considered ornamental details. Rather than recreating traditional motifs literally, the design introduces cultural references in a quieter and more contemporary way.

The result is a villa that feels elegant and current while maintaining a clear connection to regional design heritage.

The Conceptual

The concept behind Modern Arabesque was to create a contemporary home that carries the richness of Arabesque design without feeling overly decorative or traditional.

Soft architectural forms establish a calm foundation, while subtle patterns, refined detailing and reflective surfaces add depth and character. The design relies on proportion, material and controlled ornamentation rather than heavy decorative elements.

This balance allows heritage and contemporary living to exist naturally together, creating an interior that feels sophisticated, warm and timeless.

Design Process

Phase 1 — Space Planning & Design Direction

The design direction was developed around creating a contemporary villa interior with clear spatial organisation and a strong sense of visual continuity.

The layout and architectural elements were approached with modern proportions while leaving room for selected Arabesque-inspired details to become part of the overall composition.

Phase 2 — Materials & Finishes

A refined material palette was developed using layered textures and reflective surfaces to introduce depth without making the spaces feel visually heavy.

The finishes were selected to support both the contemporary character of the villa and the subtle cultural references within the design.

Phase 3 — Architectural & Decorative Details

Arabesque influences were introduced through controlled ornamental details rather than dominant traditional motifs.

These elements were integrated into the wider architectural language so they feel intentional and connected to the rest of the interior.

Phase 4 — Furniture & Final Styling

Furniture and decorative elements were selected to complement the architectural direction rather than compete with it.

The final styling focused on maintaining a balanced relationship between contemporary forms, texture and the more expressive details inspired by Arabesque design.

Challenges Overcome

One of the key design considerations was achieving the right balance between Arabesque character and contemporary simplicity.

Too much ornamentation could have made the villa feel traditional or visually heavy, while removing cultural references completely would have weakened the project’s identity.

The design therefore uses Arabesque influences selectively, allowing pattern, texture and decorative detail to appear as accents within a cleaner contemporary framework.

This creates a home that feels connected to its cultural context without compromising the lightness and simplicity expected from a modern interior.

Furniture Chosen

The furniture direction follows the same principle as the overall interior: contemporary in form, refined in proportion and complementary to the Arabesque-inspired details.

Clean silhouettes and softer forms help balance the more expressive architectural and decorative elements throughout the villa.

Textured upholstery and carefully selected finishes add warmth and comfort, while occasional reflective and decorative elements reinforce the project’s more sophisticated character.

Rather than allowing individual pieces to dominate the rooms, the furniture is intended to work as part of one cohesive interior composition.
