This residential interior design project for the Khalifa City Residence in Abu Dhabi focuses on blending contemporary modern living with serene, traditional Asian-inspired minimalism. Spanning expansive living and private quarters, the design integrates natural textures, organic elements, and sleek architectural lines to create an atmosphere of profound tranquility and refined luxury.
The conceptual foundation centers around the Zen philosophy of balance, natural harmony, and understated elegance. By combining warm wood tones, tactile stone finishes, soft ambient lighting, and clean architectural silhouettes, the space offers an urban sanctuary that bridges traditional Asian warmth with high-end contemporary comfort.
Phase 1 – Spatial Planning & Layout Optimization: Reconfiguring the floor plan to maximize open-plan circulation, natural daylight, and seamless indoor-outdoor connectivity.
Phase 2 – Material & Palette Selection: Curating an organic palette featuring rich walnut finishes, travertine stone accents, neutral linen textures, and subtle bronze details.
Phase 3 – Bespoke Joinery & Execution: Crafting custom sliding screen partitions, built-in cabinetry, and architectural wall paneling tailored to the exact proportions of the villa.
Custom Wooden Slat Partitions: Traditional Asian-style room dividers engineered with modern automated integration.
Zen Water Feature Integration: A minimalist indoor focal point designed to introduce soothing acoustic and visual elements into the living zone.
Hidden Integrated Lighting: Concealed LED strip lighting embedded within architectural joinery to cast soft, diffused glows that accentuate natural textures.
Balancing the openness of contemporary layout requirements with the cozy, intimate spatial divisions typical of Asian-inspired architecture. This was successfully resolved by utilizing semi-transparent bespoke wooden louvers and custom sliding screens that define zones without closing off the floor space.
Seating: Low-profile minimalist sectional sofas upholstered in premium performance linen fabrics.
Tables: Solid walnut low-coffee tables featuring handcrafted joinery and organic edges.
Accents: Custom paper-and-wood pendant light fixtures, artisanal ceramic vases, and bespoke freestanding screen panels.
